This building is a two story seniors lodge with a gross floor area of 2070 square meters located in Lac La Biche, AB. The building occupancy classification includes Group B Care and a Group B3 Apartment – Care Occupancy for both independent supportive living and designated supportive living. The building is framed from timber and is considered combustible, and includes a 2 hour rated masonry firewall, dividing the structure near the central elevator core.
GeoMetrix was appointed by Rockliff Pierzchajlo Kroman Architects to undertake the structural design and construction review services for the new two-storey Seniors Lodging in Lac La Biche. The project team included a general contractor early in the design phase to facilitate additional reviews and input on construction methodology and overall foundation and framing type.
Structural components of the design phase include: masonry fire separation wall, concrete elevator core, post and beam framing consisting of steel columns and timber beams, and timber framing for floor and roof joists, roof trusses, shear walls, and diaphragms. The front entrance canopy crosses the firewall; thus, had to be made non-combustible and is framed of cold form steel and structural steel.
