GeoMetrix was retained to undertake a bridge load evaluation by the fabricator and EPCM firm that needed to ship a number of large modules for the oil and gas industry. The existing structure on Highway 19 over Highway 2 is a 4 girder bridge of trapezoidal box girders with 4 spans of 45.3m, the end spans are simply supported and the middle two spans are continuous. A bridge load evaluation was conducted to determine if the overloads could cross the structure without requiring strengthening to the bridge. In addition to the overload the owner wanted to maintain public traffic in the opposite direction of travel, this required additional analysis beyond the normal permit conditions for an overload crossing.
