GeoMetrix was retained by Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure (c/o Focus Corporation) to provide bridge engineering services for this bridge rehabilitation project for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure. The bridge is a three span voided slab originally constructed in 1967. A detailed inspection, assessment, and testing program was conducted to develop an appropriate rehabilitation program for the bridge to extend its service life.
A partial depth repair was previously completed in 1995 that required the detailed analysis of the structure to confirm that the repairs did not adversely affect the moment distribution of the structure due to the change in stiffness. GeoMetrix also completed the design of barrier upgrades above and below the bridge to bridge the barriers systems up to current roadside design standards. This included adding steel struts to the outside of the bridge curbs to carry the new barrier impact loads and a concrete tall wall under the bridge to protect vehicles from the pier shafts.
