GeoMetrix was retained by Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure (MHI) as the prime consultant for the bridge replacement design of an existing 6m long single span timber bridge over Bisset Creek. The existing timber bridge was both structurally and functionally obsolete and required replacement with a wider structure with a reduced maintenance demand.
GeoMetrix designed a 9m single span bridge to replace the existing bridge that allowed for an increase in the hydraulic opening compared to the existing bridge. The superstructure consists of 9m shear connected precast box girders with an asphalt wearing surface. GeoMetrix provided the detailed design of precast abutment caps, and timber backwalls and wingwalls, based on Ministry standards. The design of the driven piles and guardrail was also included within our scope. Tender package preparation including support to the Ministry during the tender period was also provided.
